Since July 24th, the Pittsburgh Pirates have been on a downward spiral since being in frist place in their division for a few days. The Pirates were 54 and 54 wirth 54 games remaining and since that point have gone 8 and 21 for a dismal 62 and 75 record. The team batting average has dropped to .243. During the embarrassing 2010 season, the Buccos batting average was .242 when they lost 95 games. Right now the Pirate pitching staff has the 13th best ERA in baseball but as always, the Buccos are having difficulty scoring runs consistently. The Boys in Vegas do win totals for all 30 teams in baseball and the Pirates win total for this 2011 season is 68. Six weeks ago, people laughed at this total but now the Boys in Vegas may be correct.During the 2010 season the win total was 72 and the Buccos won 57, but this season the the Vegas guys may be right on the button. The Pirates have 25 games remaining, and to reach that total of 68, the Pirates need to go 6 and 19. The way the Pirates are playing right now, it is definitely possible for them to go 6 and 19 for the remainder of September. The Pirates look sluggish, there bats are weak,, the intensity and enthusiasm looks marginal, and it appears that the Pirates are anxiously awaiting for the season to end. The Buccos have only 91 home runs and are on a pace to have less than the 2010 season. The New York Yankees have more than double the Pirates home run total It looks like another losing season(will be 19 in a row)unless the Buccos do a total turn-around in the month of September. Is this possible? I question the turn-around especially after losing 3 in a row to maybe the worst team in baseball, the Houston Astros.
